WW#039 (Par)entrepreneurs with Perri Lewis

I often compare the life-cycle of your business to having a child: in its infancy it’s an all-consuming endeavour, you have to do everything for it, and it keeps you up at night with no apologies! As it grows and the terrible twos kick in, you might be a little less sleep-deprived, but you’ve still got your work cut out for you.

As the business gets older, you might feel a little more certain about what you’re doing, but each passing year brings with it new challenges, until it’s finally time to cut the apron strings and make your exit.
So what happens when you have to juggle the demands of your business baby with the needs of an actual child? Can the two co-exist?

It’s certainly a question I’ve pondered more than once over the past year, as the needs of my young family have meant that at times, nurturing my business hasn’t been as high on my list of priorities as I might have wanted it to be (apparently middle-age is when you are looking after your parents and your kids – yay!).

There’s no simple answer, that’s for sure, and I’m in the somewhat easier position of being Dad – without getting into a gender politics debate, in my experience there’s probably less pressure on men to keep all the plates spinning.

It’s a topic that I’m really excited to be discussing in this WiserWednesday with Perri Lewis, Co-Founder and CEO of Mastered, who run bootcamps and industry-led training courses for gaming-industry professionals.

Some key takeaways…

  • life is a series of transitions
  • & try all you can to avoid overwhelm in work and at home (easier said than done)

Hopefully you feel like you can juggle family & business this year after watching this. Enjoy!
